Through sympathetic alterations and additions designed to make the most of Darwin’s tropical climate, our design transformed an existing 1970’s residence into a sanctuary for the current occupants who wanted to be acutely aware of their surroundings throughout the seasons. The design accommodated their desires to retreat, entertain friends and family and have separate office spaces to enable an enviable work/life balance whilst remaining flexible as needs alter in the future. A solid street presentation contrasts the openness and transparency of the internal living areas of the home. These are sculpted from the perceived mass creating a delicate layering of spaces and materials which blur boundaries between interior and exterior. Undertaken with a collaborative spirit, our team relished the challenge to evolve the property for the next generation, while realising the client’s goals in creating this finely crafted residence.
