General Learning Building

Brisbane West

The General Learning Building at Ithaca Creek State School, opened in late 2021, delivers eight modern learning spaces alongside thoughtfully designed outdoor areas. Located near the heritage-listed entry building and stairs, the design carefully respects its historic context. A high-quality brick façade mirrors the proportions and construction methods of the original entry building while offering screening for circulation spaces and light wells. The building’s central corridor connects the two main stairs and outdoor learning areas, allowing natural light to flow through its core. This layout supports the school’s vision of engaging students with their environment, positioning classrooms with views of the iconic fig tree and ending the circulation path at the school’s main outdoor space. These design elements enhance the school’s pedagogies, fostering a connection between learning and nature.
